Discografia Whitesnake

Whitesnake é uma banda de hard rock britânica formada em 1977. Entre os seus sucessos destacam-se a balada "Is This Love", do álbum Whitesnake de 1987, e a pesada "Love Ain't No Stranger", do álbum Slide It In de 1984.

História

Logo após o fim do Deep Purple, em 1976, David Coverdale não perdeu tempo e no mesmo ano criou e lançou seu projeto solo: Whitesnake. O segundo álbum desse projeto, Northwinds (1977) foi produzido por Roger Glover (do MK II do Deep Purple) e contou com a participação de Ronnie James Dio (à época no Rainbow com Ritchie Blackmore) nos 'backing vocals'.

A formação da banda que acompanhava Coverdale era Bernie Marsden e Micky Moody (guitarras), Neil Murray (baixo) e Dave Dowle (bateria). Em 1978 saiu o álbum considerado de estréia do Whitesnake, Trouble. No ano seguinte, Jon Lord (também ex-membro do Deep Purple) juntou-se à banda e na sequência vieram Lovehunter (1979) e Live...in the Heart of the City (1980).

Live in the Heart of City é um álbum que reúne dois shows feitos pela banda: o Live In The Heart Of City de 23 e 24 de junho de 1980 e o Live at Hammersmith de 23 de novembro de 1978. O show mais antigo contém algumas músicas do Deep Purple da época que Coverdale esteve no vocal. O show mais recente, contém um 'insert' para um solo de Micky Moody usando slide e fazendo ritmos bem countries/folk na faixa Love Hunter.

Em Ready an' Willing, de 1980, Ian Paice (também ex-Purple) já fazia parte da banda. Apesar de tantos 'ex-Purples', o som do Whitesnake teve, desde o início, um estilo diferente do Deep Purple, mais voltado para o hard rock americano, com fortes influências 'redneck' presentes na guitarra com slide de Moody , ótimos 'riffs' e um baixo bem presente e elaborado.

Em 1981 lançam Come an' Get It e em 1982, Saints & Sinners que conquista o público com músicas como "Here I Go Again" e "Crying In The Rain". Muitas mudanças ocorrem no Whitesnake após este álbum e até o término da banda foi cogitado, o que não aconteceu. Após a turnê de Saints & Sinners, Ian Paice deixa a banda. Pouco depois, Bernie Marsden Neil Murray também saem. Mas Coverdale não esmorece e chama Cozy Powell para substituir Paice. Mel Galley (ex-Trapeze) assume a guitarra e Colin Hodgkinson o baixo. Lançam Slide It In em 1984 e, após o lançamento, mais uma mudança: Micky Moody sai, sendo substituído por John Sykes (ex-Tygers of Pan Tang). "Love Ain't No Stranger", "Guilty Of Love" e "Slow and Easy" fazem dele um sucesso, podendo ser considerado um dos mehores álbuns da banda. Mel Galley apresenta problemas no braço e fica afastado da banda parte da turnê. O Whitesnake segue com um só guitarrista. O baixista Neil Murray volta para a banda enquanto Jon Lord volta para o Deep Purple.

Em 1985 a banda toca no Brasil, no Rock in Rio, no lugar do Def Leppard (que desistiu na última hora devido ao trágico acidente de carro de seu baterista, Rick Allen, que teve um braço amputado). Cozy Powell também deixa a banda e em seu lugar entra Aynsley Dunbar. Whitesnake de 1987 traz como participação especial, o guitarrista Adrian Vandenberg. A música "Is This Love" estoura nas paradas mundiais, sendo inclusive tema de telenovela no Brasil.

As mudanças não param por aí, Vandenberg é efetivado na banda e John Sykes sai (dizem que ele queria ser o único guitarrista), Tommy Aldridge e Rudy Sarzo (Quiet Riot) substituem Aynsley Dunbar e Neil Murray respectivamente. Vivian Campbell (atualmente no Def Leppard) faz do Whitesnake um quinteto mais uma vez. O próximo álbum Slip of the Tongue de 1989 porém, tem Steve Vai na guitarra, em vez de Campbell.

Apesar do sucesso de hits como The Deeper The Love, o disco não vendeu muito bem, e Coverdale decide dar um tempo. Ele só volta em 93 com um projeto chamado Coverdale / Page (com Jimmy Page, ex-Led Zeppelin).

Coverdale reformulou o Whitesnake em 1994, lançando uma coletânea, Greatest Hits. Em dezembro de 97 esteve no Brasil, no show da festa da 89 FM promovendo seu novo álbum, Restless Heart.

Starkers in Tokyo surgiu quando a EMI propôs que Coverdale e Adrian Vandenberg fizessem um show acústico no Japão para promover o novo álbum. O resultado foi tão bem aceito pelos fãs que acabou virando CD.

Em 2000, a gravadora lançou o “The Best of”, um disco que traz parte dos grandes hits que fizeram do Whitesnake uma das melhores bandas de hard rock do mundo. Já em 2003, ele começam uma turnê mundial, onde forma "headliners" em diversos festivais na Europa e América do Norte. No "line up" estão Reb Beach e Doug Aldrich nas guitarras, Timothy Drury nos teclados, Marco Mendoza no baixo e Tommy Aldridge na bateria, além é claro, de Coverdale nos vocais.

Em 2008, já com Uriah Duffy no baixo e Chris Frazier na bateria, a banda lança o álbum Good to Be Bad após 11 anos, sem lançar um álbum de originais. O disco é lançado em versão CD normal, uma versão com caixa rigida especial com ofertas como poster, autocolantes e faixas extras e ainda em versão LP especial. O álbum contem já hits instantâneos como: "Lay Down Your Love", "Can You Hear the Wind Blow", "Good To Be Bad" e ainda as baladas "All I Want All I Need" e "Summer Rain". O álbum foi para já muito bem acolhido pela imprensa como grande candidato a álbum do ano. A banda passa dia 2 de Agosto por Portugal no Festival EXPOFACIC em Cantanhede, Coimbra.

Em fevereiro de 2010 o vocalista David Coverdale afirma no myspace oficial da banda que há projetos para um novo álbum de estúdio para 2011.
