Discografia Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden é uma banda britânica de heavy metal, formada em 1975 pelo baixista Steve Harris, ex-integrante das bandas Gypsy's Kiss e Smiler. Originária de Londres, foi uma das principais bandas do movimento musical que ficou conhecido como NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal). O nome "Iron Maiden" alguns dizem que foi inspirado em um instrumento de tortura medieval que aparece no filme O Homem da Máscara de Ferro. Esse também era o apelido da ex-primeira ministra britânica Margaret Thatcher, que aparece nas capas dos compactos "Women in Uniform" e "Sanctuary".

Com mais de três décadas de existência, quinze álbuns de estúdio, seis álbuns ao vivo, catorze vídeos e diversos compactos, o Iron Maiden é uma das mais importantes e bem sucedidas bandas de toda a história do heavy metal, tendo vendido mais de 100 milhões de álbuns registrados em todo o mundo. Seu trabalho influenciou diversas bandas de rock e metal. Eles são citados como influência por bandas como Hazy Hamlet, Anthrax, Angra, Metallica, Helloween, Death, Megadeth, Dream Theater , Blind Guardian e Mystery, entre muitos outros.

Em 2002, a banda recebeu o prêmio Ivor Novello em reconhecimento às realizações em um parâmetro internacional como uma das mais bem-sucedidas parcerias de composição da Inglaterra. Durante a turnê americana de 2005, foi adicionada à Calçada da Fama de Hollywood. A banda também está presente nas principais listas de maiores bandas de rock de todos os tempos.

O Maiden já encabeçou diversos grandes eventos, entre eles Rock in Rio, Monsters of Rock em Donington, Ozzfest ao lado do Black Sabbath, Wacken Open Air, Gods of Metal, Lollapalooza, Download Festival e os Festivais de Reading e Leeds.

A banda têm diversas canções baseadas em lendas, livros, histórias e filmes, entre as quais The Phantom of the Opera, The Wicker Man, The Prisoner, Stranger in a Strange Land - que é um romance de ficção científica de 1961, escrito por Robert A. Heinlein, Murders In The Rue Morgue, Flight of Icarus, Where Eagles Dare, Rime of the Ancient Mariner - baseada no poema de Samuel Coleridge -, To Tame a Land - da série de ficção científica Duna, de Frank Herbert - e The Trooper - canção baseada no romance The Charge of The Light Brigade e também a música Alexander The Great, que fala sobre a vida do rei da macedônia, Alexandre, o Grande. O que contribui para isso é o fato de o baixista Steve Harris ser um estudioso de história, principalmente egípcia, e o vocalista Bruce Dickinson ser formado no curso de história.

História


O Iron Maiden formou-se no dia de Natal de 1975, logo após o baixista Steve Harris deixar o seu antigo grupo, Smiler. Depois de ter suas composições rejeitadas por várias bandas nas quais participava, Steve Harris decidiu criar sua própria banda, se juntando com o guitarrista Dave Murray alguns meses depois. Trinta e cinco anos depois, os dois ainda permanecem como membros do Iron Maiden.

O Inicio

A primeira formação da banda juntava Steve Harris a Paul Day (vocal), Dave Sullivan e Terry Rance (guitarras) e Ron Matthews (bateria). Paul Day foi mais tarde substituído por Dennis Wilcock (grande admirador do Kiss) que usava fogo, maquilagem e sangue falso no palco e que trouxe Dave Murray para a banda, tendo como consequência a saída da primeira dupla de guitarristas. Bob Sawyer entrou na banda no final de 1976 como segundo guitarrista, mas como tinha ciúmes de Murray, virou Dennis Wilcock contra Dave e Dennis sugeriu a expulsão dele. Bob não ficou para trás e por suas atitudes errôneas no palco, foi junto em Julho de 77. Ron Matthews aguentou um pouco mais. Havia um guitarrista de uma banda chamada Hooker que o Maiden via tocar nos pubs: Terry Wapram. Após uma audição, a banda convidou-o para entrar e Wapram realizou alguns shows como único guitarrista. Pouco após isso, Ron saiu (não se sabe ao certo se por influência de Wilcock, como relatou no Early Days). Dave Murray juntou-se ao seu amigo Adrian Smith na banda Urchin em 1977, enquanto que os Iron Maiden passavam um mau bocado: Steve e Dennis chamaram Thunderstick (Barry Graham) (bateria) Tony Moore (teclado), mas após um concerto perceberam que o teclado não seria um bom substituto para a segunda guitarra. A banda ficou descontente e o clima foi ficando ruim até que após poucos ensaios, Moore decidiu sair. Nesse momento, Harris foi a um ensaio do Urchin para chamar Murray de volta para banda, o que aconteceu com sucesso. Mas Wapram, indignado porque perderia parte das atenções, não aceitou Murray de volta e foi convidado a sair. Com Murray de volta e apenas 4 integrantes, a banda decide marcar um show no Bridgehouse e outro no pub Green Man. O primeiro foi um fiasco, depois do baterista ter errado em várias músicas e gritar para o público se calar. Nessa época Wilcock já havia espalhado para alguns fãs que pretendia sair da banda e o show havia gerado alguma expectativa em torno disso também. Foi o que aconteceu. No intervalo entre o Bridgehouse e o Green Man, Dennis não disse nada e não compareceu no pub. Harris foi até sua casa, mas o vocalista se negou a cantar um último show. Arrasado, Harris voltou para cumprir com o acordo e os Maiden se apresentaram como um trio em Abril de 78, com Steve Harris, Dave Murray e Thunderstick. Steve expulsou o baterista, já contando com Doug Sampson para o posto. Com esse novo trio, os Maiden passariam cerca de 6 meses ensaiando antes tocar ao vivo ou arrumar qualquer outro integrante.
